If you are like me you probably have looked at the front cover of this book and have decided that it is not the book for you because books about animals are invariably weepies. Not so this book. This is about the celebration of life with what I consider to be the most wonderful dog breed in the world, the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, also called Great Pyrenees or pyr for short. This book relates their hilarious antics and unbelievably adventures as well as showing the amazing bond created between pyr and owner. There are no tear jerking chapters on separation. There are no sudden excursions into the realm of excessive emotions. Instead there are chapters of fun and companionship and of living life to the full. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed experiencing it. If you own a pyrenean or are thinking of buying one this is a must read!

I just have to say, this is one of the only Great Pyrenees books you'll ever need. Sure, it's not a complete non-fiction book about the breed, etc... but honestly, to have someone share their story and tell you what they learned from having pyrs tells you more than any dog breed book will ever tell you. I recently got a 3/4 Great Pyrenees and 1/4 Anatolian Shepherd cross female puppy, whom I have named Ellie. I am training her as my service dog and she is a dream, however, I don't have much experience with the Great Pyrenees breed, so this book helped emensely with helping me to understand her. And reading about all of this author's pyrenees' antics had me laughing harder than I had in a very long time.Product details

Beautiful story, but especially appreciated the gentle way it taught me about the breed. I have owned 3 Pyrs and still never fully understood them. Allyson Roberts showed me some new things and confirmed other things that I suspected about my "little ones."

Loved this book. I have a pyr Icee is her name , she is as delightful as in book. It was great reading about my favorite dogs. Icee is my best friend
Simply a delightful recounting of the author's happy years with three massive canine family members. I only wish she had written about 10 chapters more.
I cherish this book! Not only are my ancestors from Northern Ireland as is the author, but I firmly believe that Pyrs are the most loving, empathetic, gentle yet protective beings ever created.
We have a 13-year-old male, a rescue, who literally trained himself by sheer instinct to be my son's service dog. When he wasn't busy with that he has been my chief comforter throughout very painful circumstances. He would hear one sniff from me and that majestic white head was in my lap so that I could cry as long as I needed to into his fur. We recently brought home a female puppy who is being trained by her big brother to watch over our boy.
Like the author I never want to be without a Pyr. If you are interested in this breed you need to read this book!
